Lily James’ thriller film Relay is currently the top-watched film on Amazon Prime Video.

The actress, 36, has starred in some great blockbusters, including Cinderella, Yesterday, and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, and now one of her underrated thrillers is becoming popular with fans.

Relay is a 2024 release thriller that follows Ash (played by Riz Ahmed), a New York City fixer who helps whistleblowers tell their story.

Ash’s identity is concealed using a relay service for the deaf – hence the name of the movie.

Lily stars as whistleblower Sarah Grant, who works with Ash to expose Cybo Sementis Research Institute’s cover-up of genetically modified wheat.

The high-octane thriller received positive reviews but managed to fly under the radar for some, making just $4 million (£3,007,744 )at the box office.

The film comes from director David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water) and is written by Justin Piasecki.

It launched on Amazon Prime Video on December 6, and has already enchanted fans, soaring the top spot on the streaming platform.

At present, the film is at the top spot in the UK with Rebel Wilson’s film Bride Hard in the second spot, and Christmas film Red One with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in third place.

Christmas movies are also currently dominating the purchase section of the platform, with Elf in the top spot, closely followed by Home Alone and How the Grinch Stole Christmas in third place.

It earned mostly positive reviews, with critics giving the film a 82% ranking on Rotten Tomatoes.

Ed Potton for The Times commented: ‘Away from the relay scenes, the film is rather conventional, but when Sarah and Ash — or rather his proxies — are on the blower, it’s enthralling stuff.’

Wendy Ide for the Observer commented: ‘A couple of plot holes notwithstanding , this is pacy, enjoyable stuff — a crisply edited and pleasingly slippery tale that unfolds in the grubby corners of New York where only bad things happen.’

Robbie Collin said for The Telegraph: ‘It has some of the cool muscularity of a classic Michael Mann movie – and one senses it’s no coincidence that the moment it dawns on Worthington that he’s being watched mirrors the equivalent Al Pacino scene in Heat.’
