As the evenings get darker and the weather gets colder, it can only mean one thing – the festive season is upon us! With the change in season comes a change in schedules for soaps like Coronation Street, but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

It’s going to be a busy Christmas on the cobbles as we gear up for the epic Corriedale crossover in the New Year, which will see our favourite Weatherfield locals team up with the folks from Emmerdale in a first-of-its-kind episode for the ITV soaps.

But before that, there is still plenty more drama to be had on the cobbles!

Around this time of year, the TV schedules are all over the shop, so you’d be forgiven for tuning in for Corrie’s usual time slot and being shocked to find something else on in its place.

In a bid to prevent that as much as possible, we’ve got a handy guide to let you know exactly when Coronation Street will be on over Christmas.

When is Coronation Street on this Christmas and New Year?

Let the festivities begin! (Picture: ITV)

Coronation Street will air at the following times over the festive period:

  • Monday, December 22: 8 – 9pm
  • Wednesday, December 24: 8.40 – 9.10pm
  • Thursday, December 25: 7.15 – 8.15pm
  • Friday, December 26: 7 – 7.30pm
  • Monday, December 29: 8 – 8.30pm
  • Tuesday, December 30: 8 – 8.30pm
  • Wednesday, December 31: 8 – 9pm
  • Thursday, January 1: 8 – 9pm
  • Friday, January 2: 8 – 9pm

From Monday, January 5, the ITV soap schedules will change permanently, with Coronation Street set to air at 7.30pm on weeknights for 30 minutes, following a 30-minute instalment of Emmerdale at 7pm.

This will create what bosses are calling a ‘soap power hour’ and will be kicked off by Corriedale, which will air after both soaps on January 5, hitting our screens at 8pm.

What is happening on Coronation Street this Christmas and New year?

Before all that though, we need to get 2025 out of the way! Christmas is always a dramatic time in Corrie, and this year is no different.

Last year, we said an emotional goodbye to Gail Platt (Helen Worth) after 50 years on screen, and this year she’s back in the form of a video message for the Platts.

Unfortunately, things aren’t quite so cosy elsewhere…

Becky Swain (Amy Cudden) has her feet well and truly under the table at No.6 following Carla Connor (Alison King) and Lisa Swain’s (Vicky Myers) break-up,

As Becky becomes more tactile towards Lisa, the detective sergeant can’t help but think about Carla, and when she learns from Roy Cropper (David Neilson) that she never checked into her hotel in Lanzarote, Lisa is worried.

Elsewhere, Todd Grimshaw’s (Gareth Pierce) suffering at Theo Silverton’s (James Cartwright) hands continues when mentions of his former crushes leave Theo furious.

However, could there be light at the end of the tunnel when Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) begins to suspect that all is not rosy in Todd and Theo’s relationship?

Meanwhile, things get on top of Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) as it becomes clear that she is hiding a major secret and tearfully reveals all to Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson).

With Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) having overheard, what will she do with the information? Could she be set to ruin Christmas for the Driscoll-Prices?

Will things go to plan as Debbie Webster and Ronnie Bailey tie the knot? (Picture: ITV)

Things take a horrifying turn on Boxing Day when Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) finds one of the locals slumped in the ginnel having been brutally attacked.

Whose life is at risk, and who is responsible?

As the New Year rolls around, it’s wedding bells for Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) and Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), but Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) has much more on his mind.

When Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) finds that Carl has changed the passwords to the hotel bank accounts and starts to grow suspicious, will Carl’s lies start to unravel?
