The Simpsons is adding a new Hollywood star to its cast list this weekend, as Lindsay Lohan is set to lend her pipes to a certain little yellow tot in the long-running comedy.
Except Maggie is no longer so little when the 39-year-old voices her in this Sunday’s episode in the US, entitled Parahormonal Activity.
The show’s floating timeline is set to jump into the future with the new instalment, in which Marge is dealing with a ‘hormonal onslaught’ from her now-teenage kids, according to the episode synopsis.
The blue-pelted matriarch is then struck by her own massive life change, which will – in a disturbing turn of events – leave Homer as ‘the last sane person in the house’.
Lohan shared the news she will be joining The Simpsons fold as the whipsmart ball of mischief, writing in an Instagram caption to a still from the show: ‘What a dream come true to be part of this iconic family.’
The actor has returned to the screen in recent years – most noticeably in the recent Freakier Friday sequel as well as in a slew of Hallmark-esque Netflix Christmas films – after a break from the industry.
For Simpsons and Lohan fans alike, the Mean Girls star also shared a first look at the episode, in which her aged-up Maggie, without a pacifier, is suffering from laryngitis.
In the clip, she begs mum Marge not to let Bart – with an interesting side-sloping hairdo – drive because he’s too dangerous behind the wheel.
A bit like Kenny dying on The Simpsons, it’s usually a guarantee that Maggie isn’t going to speak of an episode.
Maggie uttered her first sort-of word – ‘gaga’ – during the first Simpsons short in 1987. During the show proper, her first word was ‘Daddy’, voiced by Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor, who had to record the single line numerous times because it was considered ‘too sexy’.
Elsewhere on the show, Maggie’s pacifier sucking was delivered by the show’s creator Matt Groening. Maggie’s choice few words are nowadays largely provided by Nancy Cartwright.
There have been other guest stars behind her speaking parts, including Carol Kane and Jodie Foster. The latter was heard during an anthology parody of The Fountainhead, in which Maggie gave an impassioned speech defending her creativity.
Maggie’s meta line during the credits of The Simpsons Movie, in which she pops up and asks, ‘Sequel?’ is finally being answered, with a release date after an 18-year wait.
Disney has announced that a second Simpsons movie will hit theatres on July 23, 2027.
The Simpsons episode Parahormonal Activity airs Sunday evening in the US on Fox.
