First weekend of summer brings the heat – Bundlezy

First weekend of summer brings the heat

Friday evening update: Happy Friday! As we celebrate the summer solstice today – the official start of astronomical summer and the longest day of the year – the weather is right on cue. Right now, we’re enjoying some fairly normal temperatures for June, with highs climbing into the low to mid-90s under mostly sunny skies. The air is a little on the drier side, which is nice! However, big changes are on the horizon. If you’re a fan of the heat, you’re in for a treat. If not, it might be a good week to make some friends with someone who has a pool!

Tonight, things will be calm and mostly clear, with lows dipping to a comfortable 70 degrees.

As we head into the weekend, a stubborn front that has been hanging around will finally move north. What does that mean for us? The humidity is coming back! Expect the air to feel a bit stickier as dew points climb back into the low 70s.

High pressure will start to build over the region, which means two things: lots of sunshine and rising temperatures. We forecasting highs in the low to mid-90s for both Saturday and Sunday with very little chance of rain. Perfect weather for the pool or lake!

Alright, let’s talk about next week. We’re not just talking about regular summer heat; we’re looking at a significant heat wave for the entire region. A very strong area of high pressure (heat dome) is setting up over the eastern U.S. While the most extreme heat will be just to our north, we’re still going to feel the effects in a big way.

Expect temperatures to be 5-10 degrees above our already high seasonal average. Highs will likely flirt with 100 degrees from Tuesday through Thursday. While our current soil moisture might keep us from breaking records, triple-digits are definitely on the table.

This pattern will also keep our rain chances very low, allowing things to dry out and the heat to build. The combination of heat and humidity will likely push the “feels like” temperature, or heat index, to be between 105 and 108 degrees. This means we could see heat advisories issued. So, be sure to stay hydrated and take breaks if you are headed outdoors!
