Kaizer Chiefs face Wydad raid as key member attracts offer

Kaizer Chiefs could lose a key member of their technical team after Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club tabled a lucrative offer for strength and conditioning coach Majdi Safi.

Safi, who joined Chiefs at the start of last season, came in as part of Nasreddine Nabi’s trusted technical team with a clear mission. “To wake up the sleeping giant.”

His influence was quickly felt as Amakhosi ended a 10-year trophy drought by lifting the Nedbank Cup, signalling the start of a possible new era at Naturena.

Wydad target Safi after Chiefs cup success

Wydad have now set their sights on the Tunisian performance coach, hoping to lure him away with a big-money offer. Safi has just one year remaining on his current contract with Chiefs, and the North African giants are looking to take advantage before it runs out.

Insiders at Naturena have confirmed that Safi was notably absent when Chiefs reported for pre-season training, a move that has raised eyebrows and fuelled speculation over his future.

Decision time for Safi amid Moroccan temptation

“It remains to be seen if he will take the offer or if he will let his contract run down at Chiefs and continue the process of working hard at the club,” a source said.

Chiefs now find themselves in a familiar position. Just last season, Fernando da Cruz left the club in similar fashion. Accepting a role with the Moroccan Football Association mere weeks after his arrival, leaving Amakhosi hanging.

Chiefs risk repeat of Da Cruz exit

Should Safi opt to join Wydad, it would represent another disruption to a technical team that only recently began showing signs of progress. His role in Chiefs’ resurgence has not gone unnoticed. And losing him could dent the club’s plans to build on their Nedbank Cup momentum.

Will Kaizer Chiefs lose Safi to Wydad Athletic Club?
