Hollyoaks confirms unexpected heartbreak as broken Lucas catches Dillon cheating

Lucas Hay’s (Oscar Curtis) world is blown apart once again in Hollyoaks next week as he finds boyfriend Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass) in the company of another person.

The teen, as viewers know, has just undergone major brain surgery to remove a tumour and is attempting to process Dillon’s exploitation ordeal, which has only just come to light.

Ste (Kieron Richardson), who attempted to keep the two boys apart until after Lucas had his surgery, was determined to make amends and thus he suggested that Dillon to move in with them.

Lucas was delighted when Dillon asked if he wanted to be his boyfriend again but as things became passionate between the two, Dillon pulled away, still struggling in the wake of his exploitation.

Lucas was understanding and supportive as Dillon opened up about the devastating ordeal, revealing that he had unprotected sex, feeling terrified and trapped.

Lucas urged him to get tested and, next week, Dillon gets a message informing him that his STI results are clear. Lucas sees the text first and relays the news to Dillon.

But as he attempts to get intimate, he is given the cold shoulder, with Dillon shrugging the whole thing off as he heads out, joining Frankie Osborne (Isabelle Smith) and Vicky Grant (Anya Lawrence) in the garden for a few drinks.

Things escalate further for struggling Dillon as Donny Clark (Louis Emerick) reveals that he doesn’t believe Rex Gallagher’s (Jonny Labey) version of events over who killed DI Banks (Drew Cain).

With Donny distracted by Misbah Maalik (Harvey Virdi), Dillon steals the police report, which shows which direction the killing bullet came from.

In other words, Dillon works out who fired the shot that claimed the dodgy detective’s life!

Later, Lucas returns home to the Rowing Club Apartments flat, where he lives with Dillon, to find his boyfriend sleeping with a girl.

To make matters worse, Dillon refers to Lucas as his ‘ex’, leaving the young chef absolutely heartbroken.

Pictures shared with Metro reveal the scenes in question as an emotional Lucas attempts to process what he’s seen, with Dillon horrified to realise that his beau has witnessed – and heard – everything.

After visiting Rex in prison, Ste subsequently returns home to find Lucas absolutely heartbroken – and recovering addict Dillon having relapsed. He swoops into action, putting Dillon to bed and comforting his devastated son.

Ste asks Donny about Rex, who confessed to the murder of DI Banks. Donny, however, informs Ste that he doesn’t think Rex is guilty of that particular crime, which leaves Ste with food for thought. Lucas is annoyed that his dad is still interested in Rex at all after what he did to Dillon.

Subsequent scenes see Ste find a way to pay his ex a visit. Determined to get answers, he asks Rex about Banks’ death. But will Rex spill the beans?

‘The realisation of what Rex was up to behind closed doors and what he was doing to these kids, it’s horrendous for Ste,’ Kieron told Metro. ‘Then it’s all about protecting Lucas and trying to make things up with Dillon.

Discussing the future of Rex and Ste, the actor said: ‘That chapter, at the minute, has not fully closed. But whether that’s just to scream and shout at him…’

Unable to stay in the house, Lucas makes a beeline for the door. Ste attempts to support Dillon through his relapse.

The trauma just keeps on coming for Lucas, who later receives a message from Dillon, who says he’s too messed up and that Lucas deserves better.

Unable to come to terms with everything, Lucas begins to attack himself. Horrified by the scenes before him and desperate to get him to stop, Ste intervenes, telling his son to take it out on him instead.

In intense scenes, Lucas begins to hit his dad.

‘Lucas wants to just take it out and hit Ste and he starts hitting himself,’ actor Kieron Richardson told Metro of the scene in question. ‘Lucas has got this huge scar on his head – it’s amazing what the makeup department have done – and you know when you’re getting so frustrated with yourself and you’re just hitting your head?

‘If this wound opens it’s so dangerous. Ste’s trying to say: “Stop, you’re going to hurt yourself, it’s dangerous,” and then just throws this line out: “Hit me, then. Take it out on me. I would rather you slap me, punch me, do whatever, than you do this really serious damage to yourself.” 

‘I think it’s a parent/child thing, that visualisation and the parent begging him to hit him so he stops hurting himself. It seems quite harrowing.’

Oscar, meanwhile, branded the scene a ‘hard’ one to film. ‘I remember reading the scripts and thinking I don’t know if I can do this. How do I do it? But we did it.’

Hollyoaks is working with PEGS (Parental Education Growth Support) to ensure the storyline in question is as accurate as possible.

Expect emotional scenes, with powerhouse performances from stars Oscar, Kieron and Nate.
