‘Black Mirror’ To Return for Season 8 as Netflix’s Peabody-Winning Series Earns First Golden Globes Nods

Since Black Mirror premiered, the critically acclaimed sci-fi series has told many stories that have captivated viewers and made the Netflix show a modern classic. The series has also made its mark by attracting famous and respected actors like Anthony Mackie, Daniel Kaluuya, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jon Hamm, Jesse Plemons, Rashida Jones, Paul Giamatti, Salma Hayek Pinault, Aaron Paul, Jodie Whittaker, and Domhnall Gleeson

As a result of Black Mirror’s compelling stories and stellar performances, the show has received several notable accolades. Most recently, Netflix’s beloved sci-fi series has garnered Golden Globe Awards nominations for the first time in the show’s history. In the shadow of that major moment for the series, Black Mirror’s creator and boss has announced that the show will be returning for an 8th season.

On January 9th, 2026, Netflix’s official website published an article looking at the future of one of the streaming service’s most acclaimed series, Black Mirror. That article quoted Black Mirror’s creator, writer, and showrunner, Charlie Brooker, who confirmed the show will return for an 8th season. “Black Mirror will return, and hopefully it’ll be more Black Mirror than ever… Black Mirror will return, just in time for reality to catch up with it. So, that’s exciting. That chunk of my brain has already been activated and is whirring away.”

Brooker was then asked how he would be approaching the next Black Mirror season if he was thinking of it like a music album, and he gave an interesting response. “It’s a useful thought experiment when approaching a new story. I’ll often think of, “Well, what haven’t we done yet, and what tone am I looking for? … Where does this track come on the album, and what musical direction are we going to go into?” We’ll find out. Very unlikely you’ll ever see a Black Mirror hoedown.”

While it is very exciting to know that Black Mirror isn’t over, fans of the sci-fi show likely should know that they may not want to hold their breath for its next season to premiere. While the show could return faster than expected, the release dates of its last three seasons prove there might still be a significant wait. After Black Mirror season 5 premiered on June 5th, 2019, it took until June 15th, 2023, for it to return for its 6th chapter. Following that, it wasn’t until April 10th, 2025, that Black Mirror season 7 was released.

That award is designed to recognize powerful storytelling.

Years later, in 2026, it was announced that Black Mirror had received Golden Globe nominations for the first time in the show’s history. As the Golden Globes’ website reveals, the show received the following three nominations.
