Officer could face sack after asking colleague to ‘pull his finger then farting anyway’

PC Wayne Sansom laughed after breaking wind in the woman’s face at Wembley Police Station

A Met police officer may be sacked after he asked a colleague to pull his finger and farted when she said no.

PC Wayne Sansom laughed after breaking wind in the woman’s face at Wembley Police Station in November 2021.

Russell Ford, for the Met Police, told the disciplinary hearing at Sutton Police Station: ‘When she declined [to pull his finger] he passed wind in her face from around 10-15 cm away.’

PC Sansom admits he asked her to pull his finger, but denies actually farting.

Mr Ford added: ‘He fully accepts his attempt at humour was misplaced and inappropriate in a modern policing workplace.

‘PC Sansom approached her and asked her to pull his finger, she knew what was intended and told him to move along.

‘At this, PC Sansom turned his back, stood on his toes and passed wind in her face.’

He is also accused of making ‘inappropriate and discourteous comments’ regarding her sexuality and Romanian heritage.

In December 202, when the female officer was assisting on a call out regarding Romanians who did not speak English, PC Samson referred to them as ‘f***ing d***heads’.

She replied: ‘That’s OK Wayne everyone knows you don’t like Romanian people.’

PC Sansom allegedly replied: ‘That’s not true… I would put my d**k in you.’

He has also been accused of ‘calling her a lesbian’ and ‘asking questions about her sexuality’.

PC Samson argued he only asked her once about her sexuality, adding he was worried it would lead to her being ‘unfairly treated or talked about’.

Another police officer, PC Ben Jeffries, is also said to have made ‘discourteous remarks’ and took a picture of his testicles using her phone.

Mr Ford said: ‘When PC Jeffries handed her back her phone, she opened it and noticed that the last application used was the camera.

‘She looked at the last photographs taken and saw what she believed to be a testicle.

‘She said: ‘That’s disgusting’, and he [Jeffries] replied: “Why are you getting offended? It’s just a picture of my balls.”.’

PC Jeffries is also alleged to have made ‘discourteous remarks motived by race’ about a different female colleague at Wembley Police Station.

‘She says that PC Fitzpatrick invited her to take a seat, whereupon PC Jeffries said to her ‘no, take a knee’

‘That remark, the authorities say, was no doubt a reference to a gesture used by the Black Lives Matter movement.’

Mr Ford told the hearing of a second incident in which the female officer went to open a door at the police station to find PC Jeffries holding it shut as a joke.

‘When he released the door, he laughed and said to her words along the lines of: ‘I thought you were going to start screaming Black Lives Matter”.

The female officer was ‘annoyed and upset about this remark’ and recalled another occasion when PC Jeffries pretending to light-heartedly punch her and then said: ‘Oh, Black Lives Matter! Black Lives Matter!’.

Both officers could face the sack if the allegations against them are proved as gross misconduct.

The hearing continues.
