Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) has been left elated following an idea from Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) in Emmerdale.
Shortly before she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, Sarah decided to begin the IVF process in the hopes of becoming a mum. She started the journey on her own, but then received support from Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) after learning her secret.
Yesterday, Jacob royally put his foot in it by accidentally telling Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) that Sarah wants to have a baby. Shortly before this, Sarah told Jacob that her granddad now knows about her cancer, but the way she worded it left Jacob under the impression he knew about the IVF as well.
Cain reacted by pinning Jacob against a car, annoyed that this young man had known for ages about Sarah’s plan. After Sarah broke up the scuffle between them, it got her thinking.
Sarah admitted to Jacob that the thought of not knowing her sperm donor was making her worry about the IVF. Desperate to help his friend, Jacob suggested in tonight’s episode that he could be her donor instead.
Jacob said that he didn’t want anything in return. As far as he was concerned, he was simply doing this to help Sarah out.
Sarah was taken aback, but ultimately decided to accept Jacob’s offer. It left them both incredibly excited.
‘All of his reservations about Sarah’s health came up when Leyla was still alive’, star Joe-Warren Plant said recently, discussing this storyline.
‘It was her who planted that doubt in his mind. Since then, the grief he’s been dealing with, I think he’s had time to come to terms with Sarah’s health and really, he doesn’t care about that aspect anymore. Other people’s worries were having an effect on him really. When Jacob broke up with Sarah it was selfish, it was because he was trying to look out for himself.

Discussing whether Jacob is only doing this to get back with Sarah, Joe added: ‘I wouldn’t say he’s doing it intentionally for that reason. He has enjoyed getting to know her again, getting closer, spending time with her. I don’t think he’s doing a very good job at hiding his feelings, and I think he’s really trying everything he can to win her over.
‘I wouldn’t say that the sperm donation is one of those reasons though. I think it’s purely just trying to help her.’
