High-level weather warnings continue in Mpumalanga – Bundlezy

High-level weather warnings continue in Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga continues to face the brunt of a slow-moving low-pressure system driving intense rainfall across the northeast. Weather authorities have issued a Level 10 warning, downgraded to Level 9 for today, indicating widespread flooding risks.

Mpho Rasimphi said rainfall totals remain significant.

“We are still expecting widespread showers and thundershowers over Mpumalanga, with flooding still possible,” he said.

Flooding and infrastructure risks in Mpumalanga

The province’s saturated soils heighten the danger.

“Remember, the soil is so saturated that it doesn’t take much for flooding to occur,” Rasimphi warned.

He added that overflowing rivers and dams could threaten roads, homes and essential services.

The warning includes the possibility of damage to property and housing, particularly in low-lying and informal settlements.

Temperature contrast and ongoing storms

While nights remain cooler, daytime temperatures will rise sharply. “It will be quite a warm day over most of the country,” Rasimphi said.

Authorities urge residents to avoid river crossings, relocate livestock from flood-prone areas and follow evacuation instructions where issued.
