Clive Myrie has been hailed as a ‘legend’ by the internet after spilling behind-the-scenes Mastermind gossip.
While on Saturday Kitchen this weekend, the BBC News anchor won over the audience after he’d indulged in a few glasses of wine.
He’s been the host of Mastermind for five years, praising the show and sharing that he’s had some ‘amazing experiences’.
‘We’ve had the youngest winner in his 20s, we’ve had one of the oldest winners in her 60s,’ said the 61-year-old presenter.
Then he let slip some after-party details: ‘The winner last season, and one of the finalists, they… got it on!’
His fellow guests, Tom Parker Bowles, Suzie Lee and Adam Byat were left in stitches over his ‘graphic’ description and his facial expressions.
Clive added: ‘And by all accounts they’re still together, so just like Cilla [Black] I’m looking out for my suit!’
The couple he was referring to was winner John Robinson, from last year, who is now dating finalist Claire Reynolds.
He beat her to the crown by just one point and they became close as they returned to the UK, having filmed in Northern Ireland.
‘They say opposites attract,’ John told BBC Midlands Today last year. ‘But I think in this case, very similar personalities are attracted.’
Claire revealed they barely had time to talk during filming but did say hello and ‘good luck’ before going head-to-head.
However, ‘chatting on the flight back to Birmingham afterwards’ clearly allowed love to blossom.
Clive’s cheeky nod to the pair left viewers praising him for ‘spilling all the tea’.
‘Obsessed,’ said Imogen Mays on X, declaring she ‘want[s] to get wine drunk with Clive.’
Former contestant Christopher McBride joked: ‘Can confirm my time in Mastermind was definitely a bit less eventful.’
‘Oh to be a few wines in and spilling tea with Clive Myrie,’ wrote Nell Nickson.
The BBC anchor was on the show to promote his new travel show African Adventure, which follows on from his Caribbean and Italian series.
In 2023, his Italian Road Trip sparked comparisons to American actor Stanley Tucci’s similar show.
Speaking to Metro at the time, Clive shared: ‘Of course, there were going to be links made because we’re running around the same country, we’ve both got shortages of hair and we both dress very well.
‘But his [show] is mainly about food, and quite rightly as he does it absolutely brilliantly, and I was keen to play with my strengths.’
Metro has reached out to Clive’s reps for comment.
