Former NBA superstar Lamar Odom, who was previously married to reality star Khloe Kardashian, was arrested in Las Vegas early Saturday morning and charged with driving under the influence.
Odom has previously been arrested for DUI and has been open about drug-related issues that plagued him in the past.
Odom Arrested for DUI
As first reported by TMZ on Saturday, Odom was arrested early on Saturday, Jan. 17, on a DUI charge as well as two traffic violations.
The former Los Angeles Lakers star was accused of driving more than 41 miles per hour over the speed limit while making improper lane changes and failing to maintain his lane.
Odom was previously arrested for DUI in Los Angeles back in 2013. He is set to appear in court in Nevada on March 17 after this latest arrest.
Previous Substance Abuse
In recent years, Odom has been open about his struggles with substance abuse. Back in 2013, People reported that the former Lakes star checked himself into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center a week after his 2013 DUI arrest.
In his 2019 book, Darkness to Light, Odom opened up about his overdose on cocaine, alcohol, and cannabis in a Las Vegas brothel in 2015 – an incident that nearly cost him his life.
“My heart stopped twice,” he wrote. “I had twelve seizures and six strokes. My lungs collapsed and my kidneys ruptured. I was on life support. Everyone I’d ever loved was looking at me through bleary eyes.”
Odom’s ex-wife, Khloé Kardashian, helped him with his recovery after the life-threatening incident.
The couple were married from 2009 to 2016. During that time, Odom regularly appeared on the hit reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians. They even had a spinoff show together titled Khloé & Lamar, which ran for two seasons.
Odom has since been open and shown remorse for how his substance abuse impacted his now ex-wife.
“I had a wife… and cocaine,” Odom said during the Fox special, TMZ Presents: Lamar Odom: Sex, Drugs and Kardashians. “Behind the scenes, I put her through some [expletive].”
