Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Wednesday’s (June 25) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on at 7pm.
If there’s one thing the residents of Hollyoaks have found out the hard way over the years, it’s that hell hath no fury like Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix).
The soap schemer, who is known for taking things to the extreme, has made quite an impression since staging her long-awaited comeback, overseeing an exploitation operation, attempting to kill Grace Black (Tamara Wall) and clashing with Sienna Blake (Anna Passey).
But that all proved to be the tip of the iceberg, with subsequent scenes seeing her shave off all her hair and claim that she’s very ill with cancer, hoping her supposed illness will win her the support of the village.
Her devilish plan has worked thus far, with even sworn nemesis Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) – who attempted to have her killed over a decade ago – offering her some words of comfort on fighting cancer.
Dodger Savage (Danny Mac), meanwhile, has also had the wool pulled over his eyes by Clare, who he’s evidently starting to fall for.
With Mercedes onside, Clare attempted to steal a moment of the former pub landlady’s time.
However, Mercedes was dealing with issues of her own – with escaped convict Bobby Costello (Zak Sutcliffe) having disappeared – and thus she let loose at Clare, making it quite clear that they’re not friends.

Seething to have been shut down so unexpectedly, Clare wasted little time in devising a revenge plan, tracking down missing Bobby and encouraging him to get into her car, claiming she was a friend of his mum’s.
Yikes!

If there’s one thing we know about our Merce, it’s that she’ll fight tooth and nail for her kids, so Clare certainly has a fight on her hands.
A decade on since their delicious feud and it seems the stage is set for yet another round of Mercedes vs Clare. And on the cusp of the 30th anniversary, this feels very fitting.
