Cole Walliser has defended Jennifer Lopez after thousands blasted her ‘disrespectful’ behaviour at the Golden Globes.
The Glambot has become a red carpet must for any celebrity, with those familiar slow-motion clips often going viral for better or worse.
JLo is no stranger to the quick push camera, directed by Cole, but her latest interaction at the recent awards show has left viewers fuming.
Barely looking up, she murmured hello to the always cheery director before turning her back to him in preparation for the camera.
After filming it in a matter of seconds, the Maid in Manhattan actress waved goodbye and wandered off to continue the star-studded evening.
Cole has now come to JLo’s defence, saying ‘the internet needs to just calm down’ in a video posted to his social media.
‘I didn’t take it personally,’ he explained, adding that her closed-off demeanour ‘didn’t feel rude in that moment.’
Despite the director not feeling offended, his fans certainly voiced their opinions on her no-fuss approach, branding the singer as ‘rude’.
‘I think there’s a couple things that added to the fuel of this idea,’ Cole continued. ‘One, she’s just down to business. The carpet was closed. She’s ready to go inside. She knew what she was gonna do. She got into the position.
‘It’s just unfortunate that the position was she was facing away from me. So I am talking to her, she is looking away, but she’s getting ready for the move.’
JLo opted for a simple turn, swooping around in her sheer dress to serve face to the approaching camera.
She was in position and dramatically turning within seconds of approaching Cole, which he says is due to the late timing of her arrival.
‘I knew she was getting ready. I knew it was late,’ he reasoned. ‘We were just getting through it. That moment didn’t feel rude.’
Cole mentioned Cara Delevingne’s Glambot at the Oscars in 2023, where she seemingly rolled her eyes before stepping into frame.
He said that in the moment, he had not spotted her eye roll and would have edited it out if he had.
The red carpet environment is ‘generally insane’ and, according to Cole, there are plenty of times that the stars are not even aware of what they’re being shepherded to do.
Publicists whizz them between interviews, photo opportunities, and staples like the Glambot without much warning or discussion.
Despite being a well-established fan favourite moment, Cole said he always thinks it’s ‘generous’ of the stars who stop to take part.
‘Anybody that stops, I already like you because you’re taking the time to do my thing, and this is generous of you because you don’t have to do it,’ he shared.
While it’s nice to have a friendly chat, Cole emphasised: ‘These celebrities, they’re at work. They’re there to do a thing to promote their show, to be a guest, to be a presenter… they’re working.’
