Luke Cage star Mike Colter has confimed that he’s had discussions about returning to his iconic Marvel character in the future.
Speaking on the On That Note podcast, Colter confirmed that Cage’s introduction to the MCU may finally be on the cards. “I’ve had conversations,” he confirmed. “I love the fans and I love that world.”
While the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, had previously made his stance clear about Netflix’s shows not being “canon” to the MCU, the movie franchise has made a strong effort to bring several of those familiar faces back in recent years.
Colter made reference to this, adding: “I think Daredevil’s back… Jessica [Jones] is back… we’re in a better position to see this come into fruition faster then we think.”
While Charlie Cox is currently the only Netflix superhero who’s successfully made the transition into the MCU, that’s going to change very soon. Both Krysten Ritter and Jon Bernthal will be coming back later this year, with the former in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again and the latter with a supporting role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Many fans have theorized that this is building towards a reunion of Netflix’s Defenders on the big screen, and Colter’s recent comments definitely lend some credence to that idea. It’s also no secret that Marvel’s actors have a tendency to mislead fans about how much they’re truly involved with a project—so there could be more to Colter’s “we’ll see” than there initially seems.
If Marvel’s Defenders truly are coming back, the team couldn’t have picked a better moment. Avengers: Doomsday is less than a year away, and there are countless surprise cameos rumored for the film—from Tobey Maguire‘s Spider-Man to Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine.
