There was an unexpected profiter from Ray Walters’s (Joe Absolom) death – Arthur.
Ray Walters, drugs kingpin of the Yorkshire Dales, met an untimely demise and was found dead in the back of Jai Sharma’s (Chris Bisson) van after news of his illegal business started coming to light.
It was the culmination of a months-long reign of terror over the village which saw Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle), April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan), and Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) caught up in his and Celia Daniels’ (Jaye Griffiths) dark, dark world.
While everyone may be free of him, his legacy manages to live on when Arthur makes a decision that could change the course of his life forever.
Before he died, Ray struck up a relationship with Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy), that, had she not discovered what a wretch he was, had the potential for the long haul.
Just prior to his death, Laurel had found out what kind of man he was and broke things off, and Arthur (Alfie Clarke) resolved to make him pay for breaking his mum’s heart.
On the day of Ray’s death, Ray headed into the village after having murdered his mum, and Arthur spotted an opportunity – he stole the red bag Ray was carrying. Turned out, it was full to the brim with drugs and was a bit of a windfall for Arthur.
Laurel did discover this, but thought it had all been dealt with.
With Ray out of the way, Laurel feels things are getting back on track with Arthur – she has no clue he is hiding a secret, that he still has the contents of the red bag. As she leaves him, she has no idea he is literally sitting on an envelope of cash. With her out of the way, he stashes it in his hoodie pocket.
Arthur makes a huge mistake in not being discreet about his windfall, and April starts to realise he’s a bit flusher than he usually is.
Arthur’s in for a gut punch when April starts talking about just how dark the drugs trade is and quickly his new side hustle becomes a problem. He realises he’s spending cash that was earned on April’s family’s grief.

But when it comes to the crunch and he’s stood outside April’s house ready to give it back, his guilt isn’t enough to make him do the right thing. Is this the start of a very bad trajectory for once golden boy Arthur? Are Ray’s shoes being filled before they’re even cold?
