The death toll from a collision between a scholar transport vehicle and a truck in Vanderbijlpark on Monday has risen to 14, after another learner succumbed to injuries in hospital.
The crash occurred when a scholar transport vehicle carrying pupils collided with a truck.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, while injured learners were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Officials Express Condolences
Earlier, Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane said the province was devastated by the tragedy, describing it as a painful loss for families, schools and communities.
Chiloane called for stricter oversight and increased vigilance in the private scholar transport sector, stressing the need to ensure learner safety and the roadworthiness of vehicles transporting pupils.
President Cyril Ramaphosa also conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims.
He said the government would ensure that psychological support is provided to affected families and schools as they grapple with the trauma of the incident.
