Award-winning comedian Martin Short will be the subject of a new documentary coming to Netflix in May 2026.
Marty, Life is Short will educate viewers on Short’s acclaimed, exhaustive career in comedy, from his early years on SCTV in the 1970s to his Hollywood successes like Father of the Bride and Only Murders in the Building .
The documentary will be directed by Lawrence Kasdan, a filmmaker best known for his work on The Bodyguard and The Big Chill; he also wrote the screenplay for Raiders of the Lost Ark. Brian Grazer and Ron Howard are also attached to the film through their Imagine Documentaries production company.
Martin Short’s Not-So-Short Career
Martin Short is best known for his stint on SNL in 1984; the comedian only stayed for a single season, but quickly became a fan-favorite and forged his own distinctive career in sketch comedy.
Most recently, Short has found huge success alongside Steve Martin and Selena Gomez on Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, which he and Martin also produce. The show has been nominated for 56 Emmys and won seven of them, with the sixth season currently getting ready for production.
Short is also a widely decorated stage actor, with a Tony Award to his name for his performance in Little Me. He also appeared on Broadway’s in TerrenceMcNally‘s It’s Only A Play.
Short and Kasdan previously collaborated on 1999’s Mumford, a comedy film about an unorthodox psychiastrist who treats his small-town patients with unfamiliar methods. This marks their second time working together.
Marty, Life is Short will be available to stream globally on Netflix from May 12. It will join Short’s 2018 comedy special, An Evening You Will Forget for The Rest of Your Life, on the platform.
