People who use Yahoo Mail and AOL email services were hit with a widespread outage on Wednesday, Jan. 21, as users across America reported their email was down. The outage also impacted Yahoo and AOL’s regular websites.
As users tried to log into their email services on Wednesday, instead of getting their mail, they were greeted with message that said, “Edge: Too Many Requests.” It existed for multiple browsers.
The website Down Detector reported a spike in reports of Yahoo Mail and AOL email being down around 9:30 a.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, Jan. 21. Up until that point, the email services had been working properly for months.
Yahoo Mail was launched way back in October 1997 after Yahoo acquired the webmail service RocketMail from Four11, and it quickly became a chief competitor of Hotmail in the email market. It’s wild that Yahoo Mail and AOL email services are still among the most popular email services on the planet.
What to Do If Your Yahoo Mail or AOL Email is Down
If your email is down, what should you do? Well, wait it out, because when the servers are up again, you’ll be able to access your mail. Also, it’s worth sending a note to your most important contacts after the outage to say that you may have missed messages that were sent while the servers were down.

On Down Detector’s page for AOL, one user said, “Here we go again.” Another added, “AOL email won’t open yet again.” Another simply said, “AOL Mail is not working.”
