This post-season in the NFL is one of the most active in recent memory. According to The New York Times, the league will have a record-tying 10 head-coaching changes as a result of the 2025-2026 season, and who’s to say this number doesn’t continue to swell? One of the more surprising personnel changes has been Mike Tomlin deciding to part ways with the Pittsburgh Steelers after the team suffered an embarrassing loss to the Texans in a Wild Card playoff game on January 12 (30-6 was the final score).
For many in the NFL audience, Steelers fans in particular, Tomlin’s decision is the end of an era. As head coach of the Pittsburgh team, he’s led the squad to two Super Bowl appearances, one Super Bowl win, and has been honored with the title of Coach of the Year. Additionally, ESPN states, “Tomlin’s 19 consecutive seasons without a losing campaign is now five seasons longer than any other such streak to begin a NFL head coach’s career.”
With all that being said, it’s natural for people to speculate about what a coach of his caliber does next. Well, here’s what was announced.
Mike Tomlin Stars in Prime Video’s ‘The Object of the Game‘

On January 21, it was reported that Prime Video is set to debut the football documentary, The Object of the Game. The three-part series premieres on February 4 and zeroes in on the legendary high school football coach, Chuck “Chico” Kyle, as he talks about his 40 years leading one of the most successful high school sports teams in United States history. Tomlin comes into the fold, as he’s one of the interview subjects alongside other greats like Bill Belichick, Sean McVay, Tony Romo, Mike Tomlin, Tony Dungy, Urban Meyer, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Will Mike Tomlin Coach Again?
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport claims that while teams have contacted Tomlin to express their interest in him coaching, they were reportedly met with the sentiment that “Tomlin does not plan to coach next year.”
In the hours after Mike Tomlin told the #Steelers he was stepping downs, teams have contacted Tomlin to express their interest, sources say.

Plus, it should be noted that Tomlin stepped away from the Steelers with two years left on his contract, so Pittsburgh retains his contractual rights. Simply put by Yahoo Sports, “Any team interested in hiring him would have to give up draft-pick compensation.”
Again, The Object of the Game debuts on Prime Video on February 4.
