New Verzuz Battle Sees Frequent Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West Producers Clash

Verzuz may have started out as an Instagram Live series that helped entertain the world during the COVID-19 pandemic, but over time, it’s become a must-watch event for music lovers. And now, the series is back with a brand-new battle on January 30, at 5 pm PT, featuring some of today’s most-successful producers.

The live stream battle, taking place on Apple Music, will see Mike Will Made-It and Hit-Boy go head to head, and considering the former has a history of working with Grammy-winning artists like Kendrick Lamar, and the latter has worked with Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West on multiple occasions, this Verzuz is set to be a must-watch.

As a music lover myself, I have my thoughts on who I think will win, but they both have certainly earned their spot in this match-up.

What are Mike Will Made-It’s Biggest Hits?

Although Mike Will Made-It was producing music before 2012, that year was really a breakout one for him. He knocked it out of the park with a few top Billboard rap hits, including:

  • “Turn on the Lights” by Future
  • “Mercy” by Kanye West, Big Sean, Pusha T, and 2 Chainz
  • “No Lie” by 2 Chainz featuring Drake
  • “Bandz a Make Her Dance” by Juicy J featuring Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz

On top of these rap songs, when 2023 rolled around, he also made his impression on the R&B and pop genres by cranking out “Pour It Up” with Rihanna, “Kisses Down Low” with Kelly Rowland, “Body Party” with Ciara, and “We Can’t Stop” with Miley Cyrus.

Personally speaking, my favorite Mike Will Made-It collabs have been with the one and only Kendrick Lamar. He produced both “Humble” and “DNA” from Lamar’s Grammy and Pulitzer Prize-winning album, DAMN. It should also be noted that he produced the number one Billboard song, “Black Beatles” by Rae Sremmurd featuring Gucci Mane, and “Formation” by Beyoncé

What are Hit-Boy’s Biggest Hits?

Hit-Boy’s career really took off when he produced the legendary Kanye West and Jay-Z track, “N*ggas in Paris.” The song landed at the top spot on the US Rap Billboard chart and fifth on Billboard’s Hot 100. Hit-Boy also worked with West on “Cold” and the fan-favorite track “Clique.” Outside of Hit-Boy’s collabs with West, here are some of his most popular songs:

  • “Scream & Shout” by will.i.am featuring Britney Spears, Lil Wayne, Waka Flocka Flame, Hit-Boy, and Diddy
  • “XO” by Beyoncé
  • “Sicko Mode” by Travis Scott
  • “Racks in the Middle” by Nipsey Hussle feat. Roddy Ricch & Hit-Boy

Now, if I had to choose who may win this Verzuz battle, I’m going to go with Mike Will Made-It. He just has a few more tracks that I tend to listen to more.
