Why We Love This Deal
When you think of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the likes of Van Gogh’s Starry Night or Henri Matisse’s Dance likely come to mind first. But the museum has also showcased things like Opinel’s No. 8 knife, a French-origin EDC knife known for versatility and elegance. These knives are among the classiest-looking, and they hardly ever go on sale, but Amazon is offering the largest model in the iconic Inox series at a rare discount.
The Opinel No. 12 Inox Folding Knife is now just $23, a rare 22% discount off the normal $30 price. As a large-blade knife, it has more cutting area and a larger handle than others in the classic Inex series. This makes it great for the trials of the hunter and those with larger cutting tasks. The discount offered now is a seasonally low price and one we don’t see often.

What Shoppers Should Know
- Blade Length: 4.82 inches
- Blade Material: Stainless steel (Sandvik 12C27)
- Handle Length: 6.22 inches
- Handle Material: Beechwood
- Folding?: Yes
- Best Use Case: Camping, fishing, daily carry, and more
What’s in a name? A good rule of thumb for an Opinel is that its number is approximately the length of its blade in centimeters, and at 4.82 inches, the blade here sits at just over 12 cm. “Inox” designates this as a stainless steel blade production, making it one of the easiest types of knives in the Opinel collection to take care of. It’s anti-corrosive, holds sharpness well, and requires no dedicated maintenance or know-how to maintain. The combination makes it great for camping and hunting needs, but also makes it superb for non-specialized tasks.
A varnished beechwood handle of about half a foot fits into Opinel’s Virobloc metal ring to create a handle that even large hands can get a confident grasp on. The ring allows the knife to fold and be locked away for safety in a method that’s not entirely dissimilar from what the best pocket knife brands are doing.
Though Opinel knives are a timeless classic, the brand has done well to keep prices low, not cashing in on the 100-plus years of the Opinel name. In a world where a mini Spyderco can cost $40, and Kizer hunting knives feel like a steal at $50, this is a fantastic way to get a noteworthy knife at an affordable cost.

What Shoppers Are Saying
One shopper described the No. 12 by saying, “This is such a utilitarian knife that will meet any expectations.” People described using it while backpacking, camping, whittling, and more. One person even said they have a second one to use as their steak knife.
Meanwhile, a woman said she bought one for her French husband, noting that “Opinel is such a source of pride for the French.” As for the knife itself? “Sharp as hell.”
The Opinel No. 12 Inox is now nearly 25% off in a rare Amazon deal. Great alternatives include the classic No. 8, discounted by a couple of dollars to $20, or the slightly larger No. 9 at just $17.
