Orlando Pirates new coach eye’s former player amid Mofokeng drama

Orlando Pirates’ new coach, Abdeslam Ouaddou, could well open the door for Marumo Gallants striker Junior Zindoga.

The pair worked together last campaign, managing tenth on the log once the concluding whistle blew of the season. Ouaddou is reportedly keen on a reunion, fuelling speculation of an offseason move.

According to reports, the Buccaneers had already been monitoring the Zimbabwean international before the Moroccan manager was appointed.

“He’s a very good player and his work rate is exceptional,” a source revealed.

“He was doing well before he picked up an unfortunate injury. But even then, several clubs were monitoring him, Orlando Pirates included. Now that they’re coached by someone who knows him well and is a big fan of his style, there’s definitely a stronger possibility.”

Meanwhile, Ouaddou will be cautious of losing his best players so early into his Orlando Pirates’ tenure, but it seems there isn’t anything he can do about Relebohile Mofokeng, who has several clubs vying for his services, such as Al Ahly, Zamalek FC and MLS side FC Cincinnati.

Another sign is Mofokeng’s father, who recently stated his wish for Mofokeng to leave Orlando Pirates this winter, saying, “My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I’m praying every day. I don’t want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,” Sechaba, Mofokeng’s father, said

“[Whether it’s in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona? He can play. PSG? He can play. Any country. I’ll be happy — but not Saudi Arabia,” he added.

“Not yet. He’s still young. He needs to compete in UEFA competitions. If he goes to Saudi now, he won’t experience that. Yes, he’d be rich — but happiness is more important. You can have all the money in the world, but if you’re not happy, it’s worthless.”

Orlando Pirates are yet to comment on Mofokeng’s future.
