RIP Bonnie Blue: It was fun, but the era of gross viral challenges is well and truly over

I’ve been asked a lot recently about how I feel writing articles about Bonnie Blue. My answer had always been simple: The whole world is talking about Bonnie Blue. I am too. OnlyFans has created a platform for creators to try and outdo each other, and of course, that’s a bleak reality. But, it’s fascinating. And we all can’t get enough of fascinating.

Now, my answer would be completely different. The time has come. In the last couple of weeks, Bonnie Blue has managed to cancel herself.

Prior to this, I think we’d all become quite desensitised to her level of grotesque “challenge”, prettily wrapping them up in the guise of a “group event” or “stunt” for OnlyFans. Oh, she’s sleeping with 2,000 men today? Well, of course she is. But now, it’s time to accept Bonnie Blue is over. I’m done defending her.

You might be sat thinking, The Tab saying this is wild. And yes, it is. I’ll be the first to admit, I’ve dined out on her wildness, and at points couldn’t wait to see what outlandish plan she had next. It was fun! But, the room has been read. And you guys know what I mean. Andrew Tate? Really? We’re going there?

A year ago, not many of us knew who Bonnie Blue was. Then over night she had a catastrophic rise to fame when she… slept with 1,000 guys in a day. An unusual way to get yourself noticed, but it worked. We were paying attention.

She became her own brand, her slogan being sleeping with “barely legals”. Bonnie was booked and busy – interviews with every tabloid, prime time sofa spots on This Morning, and she even did a press tour in America. Agree or disagree with her line of work, she was everywhere.

She’s claimed to now be a millionaire, turning over six figures a month. Quickly, the only person she was competing with (bar maybe Lily Phillips) was herself. How can she get more sordid? Challenges bigger? Body counts higher? Each week came with something new.

Now, I’m not here to give you a nuanced take on Bonnie’s brand of what she calls “feminism” because at this point, I think she’s completely scratched that out. And she did that as soon as she sat down with Andrew Tate. I’m not getting into the argument of whether Bonnie openly sleeping with thousands of people is her own brand of feminism. It’s past that. Anyone who sits down with Andrew Tate in the name of exposure cares nothing for women. It’s as simple as that.

She and Tate appeared on Rob Moore’s Disruptors, a podcast which platforms “the most disruptive individuals on the planet”. The eye-roll inducing interview is nearly three hours, of them clearly both trying to say the most controversial things to get people talking.

Bonnie is used to backlash, but this got more than ever. “This is actually the grossest thing you’ve done,” one person said. Another added: “They deserve each other.” A third called it “highly disturbing”. The collab was almost depressingly inevitable. We all knew the day would come when she took her notoriety too far, I just didn’t think it would be this soon.

Tate is currently facing charges of rape, actual bodily harm and human trafficking. He’s a poster boy for toxic masculinity. Bonnie, sat opposite him, has always claimed her challenges are empowering, and she does them because she loves them. So we have sex for power and freedom, sat opposite someone *accused* of the opposite. It’s not a good look.

Prior to this, Bonnie was banned from OnlyFans. This came after she said she was going to be doing a “petting zoo” challenge. Bonnie was basically going to lock herself in a glass box, and allow 2,000 men to do “whatever they want” to her. It was called out for “glamourising rape”, and Bonnie quickly cancelled the event.

An OnlyFans spokesperson said: “Extreme challenge content is not available on OnlyFans and is not permitted under our Acceptable Use Policy and Terms of Service. Any breach of our Terms of Service results in content or account deactivation.”

It appeared Bonnie had completely lost herself. She was always treading a fine line, but these last two “stunts” can no longer be waved off as such. Bonnie recently admitted the viral “challenges” she is best known for sometimes bring her sadness. In a rare admission of her true feelings, Bonnie said she’d never “publicly explained my sadness due to these events.” Finally, we saw the truth of where we’ve got to.

Now, Bonnie is appearing to be trying to rebuild her brand. She’s been doing a flurry of press interviews – yes, one with The Tab, and has moved over to another subscription website. But, I really don’t think she sees what she’s done as career ending. Well, it is.

She’s sat alongside a man, who may not have been found guilty, but what he’s been accused of is petrifying. And everything Bonnie does is for shock factor. Are we shocking young women into fear now? Is this where we’re headed?

The Andrew Tate collab steered Bonnie away from being someone we could be shocked by, whilst still remaining relatively amused and entertained. Now? There’s nothing funny here. I’m done. And Bonnie is too.
