The finale of Fallout season 2 is rapidly approaching on Amazon Prime Video.
The post-apocalyptic saga is an adaptation of the hugely popular video game, but has onboarded a whole host of new fans who have never picked up a console.
Not enough for its own liking, it might seem, because the streamer is trying to put the show in front of new eyeballs, in a manner not dissimilar to the perilous atomic weapons of the show.
And so, from the end of January, the Prime Video official YouTube account is uploading two episodes of the show in their entirety every day.
So far, the premiere and the second instalment of season one are already up – and have racked up thousands of views, with YouTube users able to stream them at no cost whatsoever.
The new hour-long episodes arrive each day at 1am and 2am UK time (they’re geared at the US viewership, where it’s a much more reasonable hour).
Those who have looked on afar as Amazon Prime subscribers enjoyed the witty writing and immaculate world-building of Fallout, now is your time to jump on that bandwagon.
But you’ll have to be tout-suite about it, because all episodes are set to expire at 8am UK time on February 11.
It’s not the first time the show has tried to venture forth from the confines of its platform, having also teamed up with Samsung to offer Fallout free to those with smart TVs.
The free offer of the first season has been perfectly timed for when Fallout season two wraps up, in which the action has moved to the Las Vegas strip, otherwise now known as New Vegas.
Metro’s take on Fallout season 2
Deputy TV Editor Tom Percival shares his review…
Here’s the good news: the second season is great – it may even be brilliant at times – combining exciting action with likeable characters, excellent world-building, and a gripping story.
I’d actually go so far as to say that the Fallout TV show is a near-perfect adaptation, being both slavishly devoted to maintaining the style and tone of the games while also having the confidence to do its own thing when it needs to.
Too often, these apocalyptic shows seem to think the end of the world means everything has to be brown and miserable (I’m looking at you, The Last of Us), but this is a series that dares to make doomsday fun.
The love/hate relationship between ‘okie-dokie’ advocate Lucy (Ella Purnell) and the Ghoul (Walton Goggins) has become the backbone of the show, as they search for Lucy’s dastardly father (Kyle MacLachlan).
You don’t need to listen to me alone telling you this is a good show – it has a near-perfect 95 per cent rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as well as an 8.3 rating out of 10 on IMDb. Not to be sniffed at.
There, viewers have already hailed the show as everything from ‘nothing short of a masterpiece’ to ‘definitely one of my all-time favourite shows’, with many describing it as the best video game adaptation to leap to the screen. Well, you be the judge.
Will you be watching Fallout free while you can?
