Cape Town areas to face nine-hour water shutdown from Tuesday

The City of Cape Town water and sanitation directorate will conduct planned maintenance leading to a nine-hour water shutdown in some areas.

The first planned maintenance is scheduled for Monday, 30 June from 8:00 – 20:00 and will affect residents in Durbanville, Fisantekraal, Klipheuwel, Wellington, and Hermon.

CAPE TOWN CONFIRMS NINE-HOUR WATER SHUTDOWN IN THESE AREAS

The City of Cape Town said planned maintenance work will result in water supply disruption to these areas:

Durbanville, Fisantekraal, Klipheuwel, Wellington, and Hermon – The Voëlvlei Water Treatment Plant will shut down on Monday, 30 June, from 08:00 – 22:00 to accommodate maintenance at the water purification plant. The areas that may be affected include parts of Durbanville, Fisantekraal, Klipheuwel, Wellington, and Hermon, as well as private consumers along the Voëlvlei pipeline. This shutdown will result in a temporary interruption of the water supply to these areas.

Parts of Claremont and Newlands – Maintenance teams will be doing a test shut-off of the water main in Talana Road, Newlands, from 9:00 – 18:00 on Tuesday, 1 July. This is in preparation for the actual shut-off from 9:00 until 18:00 on Thursday, 3 July, when the newly installed pipeline will be connected to the existing water supply infrastructure.

Part of Saxonsea – Atlantis – Similarly, the water supply to a large part of Saxonsea will be shut off temporarily from 8:00 – 17:00 on Thursday, 3 July. This will enable the maintenance team to safely continue with the pipe replacement construction work in Kent, Lisboa, Middelburg, and Matheran streets, which will involve the installation of valves and making connections to the existing water supply infrastructure.

ZERO PRESSURE TESTS

Moreover, the City of Cape Town said zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments will be done on the water supply network, resulting in water supply disruptions in the following areas:

Tuesday, 1 July, from 10:00 until 16:00: Belmont Park, Eikendal, Kleinbegin, and Summerville
Tuesday, 1 July, from 09:00 until 20:00: Mountainside and Strand
