Squid Game season three has finally come to an end, and I definitely need a moment to process it all. That incredible cameo by Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett was absolutely unforgettable. But she wasn’t the only surprise; there’s actually another unexpected cameo in the final episode of Squid Game season three that many viewers might have missed.
Of course, Blanchett’s role as the American version of The Recruiter grabbed everyone’s attention. In the finale, The Front Man is shown in Los Angeles handing over Gi-hun’s daughter’s belongings and the prize money. As he drives away, he hears the distinct sound of Ddakji being played in an alley. And that’s when Cate Blanchett’s Recruiter appears.
But, as it turns out, Blanchett’s cameo wasn’t the only surprise hiding in the final episode of Squid Game season three.
So, who else made a cameo?

The show’s creator himself, Hwang Dong-hyuk, makes a brief but unmistakable appearance. In the final episode, titled “Humans Are…”, if you look closely around 31 minutes and 55 seconds in, you’ll spot Hwang sitting behind one of the painters’ desks. He’s wearing a white shirt and a grey hat, blending quietly into the background. The shot isn’t sharply focused on him, so it’s easy to miss. But once you know he’s there, you won’t be able to unsee it.
Hwang had actually teased this little Easter egg during the season two promotions. In an interview with InStyle, he said, “I do have a cameo, but in season three, where I come in for just a little bit. Later, when season three is released, try and find me.”
Of course people took up the challenge and found him. So next time you watch the finale, keep an eye out, that blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment from Hwang Dong-hyuk is definitely worth spotting.
