AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The Georgia Department of Public Transportation is notifying drivers that lane closures will begin on Bobby Jones Expressway after the holiday weekend.
According to a press release sent Wednesday, State Route 232/Bobby Jones Expressway will have closed lanes between State Route 104/Washington Road and Scott Nixon Memorial Drive as crews work on a resurfacing project starting July 7.
Work will take place overnight, with the closures lasting from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. This schedule is subject to change upon weather conditions, according to officials. GDOT has restricted work between the hours of 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. to prevent congestion.
Drivers are asked to exercise caution, reduce their speed, stay alert and watch for workers while navigating the work zone.
On average, more than 40,000 vehicles travel this section of SR 232 daily, according to the GDOT.
