Fans of one of ITV’s longest-running dramas have been left ‘heartbroken’ after it was confirmed that it is finally ending after 11 years.
The period detective series Grantchester starring Robson Green has long been a fan favourite, with the 60-year-old starring in the show from the very beginning along the likes of James Norton, Tom Brittney and now Rishi Nair in the lead role.
But while both he and Nair will be returning as the crime-solving leads Geordie and Alphy in season 11, it will also be their last outing in the Cambridgeshire village.
Commenting on the news of the show drawing to a close, Green said on Instagram: ‘From the very beginning, I have had the incredible fortune to be part of this extraordinary team of talented, passionate, and dedicated individuals who have become more than colleagues.
‘They have become family. I have made friendships forged through shared laughter, challenges, and triumphs.
‘The bonds we’ve formed extend far beyond the camera lens, and I know that they will endure long after the final scene within the Grantchester world has been filmed. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this incredible journey.

‘Over two seasons — and now as we begin filming our third — I’ve had the privilege of telling stories that mean so much to so many, and I’m deeply thankful for that.
‘As we begin filming this final chapter, I do so with a full heart and endless gratitude — for the memories, the friendships, and the incredible journey we’ve shared. To the entire cast and crew — thank you for your unwavering support, love, and warmth that you all bring onto set every day.
‘Working alongside you all, and more importantly getting to know you, has been a true privilege and joy.’

@nycev also wrote: ‘This is one of the most wonderful shows… I watch each episode at least two times and sometimes three times. All excellent – actors, writing, setting, story.’

@cherrie_vibes added: ‘Nooo please this is devastating. This was my comfort show. We need a Leonard spin off!!!!’
In addition, @lindakirk55 commented: ‘A final season???😭😭. It’s such a great show with great cast and storyline it should not be gone.’
Grantchester Season 11 will see Alphy learn about his past and the other life he could have led, making him question who he is and what he believes in.
Geordie is also offered the chance to finally be in charge, but it could also mean the end of his crime-solving days.
The show’s creators also teased that some ‘huge decisions will be made’.
Grantchester is available to watch on ITVX.
