Bobby explains how Chiefs and Pirates contribute to growth and revenue of small clubs

Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung says clubs like Amakhosi and Orlando Pirates contribute to the growth and revenue of other small clubs.

Speaking to Mazola Molefe on Behind the Boot, Bobby said that when Chiefs play away games, opponents push the ticket prices to capitalise on Amakhosi’s popularity.

“If you check the sacrifices that Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have made regarding ticket issues, it was a sacrifice in terms of how to charge people because of the background of our communities,” he said.

“When Chiefs play out of Joburg, we pull a lot of crowds. Before that, we used to share gates with the teams but then to empower other clubs without sponsorships, we made a call to say let the home teams keep the revenue,” Motaung added.

The Amakhosi boss explained why the clubs decide to make football tickets affordable.

“The ticketing issue has always been a torny issue because when we play as Kaizer Chiefs outside, clubs increase their prices, they make more money because of crowds,” Bobby said.

“As Kaizer Chiefs and I know Orlando Pirates do the same thing, we don’t (make a profit from tickets), we care about our people. It’s more of the economy and affordability.”

Do you think ‘small clubs’ should charge more if they play against Chiefs?
