Speculation is mounting around Relebohile Mofokeng’s future as Orlando Pirates bring in fresh talent to the squad. The arrival of Oswin Appollis from Polokwane City has added fuel to the rumours of Mofokeng’s possible exit amid interest from MLS and Egyptian clubs.
Mofokeng’s father has publicly expressed his wish to see his son move overseas next season, emphasizing the importance of playing in UEFA competitions rather than financially motivated moves. Orlando Pirates have remained tight-lipped about the midfielder’s future.
“My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I’m praying every day. I don’t want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,” Sechaba Mofokeng said.
“[Whether it’s in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona? He can play. PSG? He can play. Any country. I’ll be happy — but not Saudi Arabia,” he added.
“Not yet. He’s still young. He needs to compete in UEFA competitions. If he goes to Saudi now, he won’t experience that. Yes, he’d be rich — but happiness is more important. You can have all the money in the world, but if you’re not happy, it’s worthless.”
New arrival shakes things up for Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates’ capture of Oswin Appollis marks a significant step in refreshing the squad. Appollis offers versatility and youthful energy, which could complement or replace departing players. His signing reflects the club’s intent to remain competitive.
While the Sea Robbers have not confirmed any transfers involving Mofokeng, interest from clubs like FC Cincinnati and Ah Ahly grows louder. Fans are keen to see how this saga unfolds and what it means for the team’s midfield dynamics.
Orlando Pirates face a pivotal moment in balancing squad continuity with fresh acquisitions.
Will Mofokeng stay, or is his departure inevitable?
