England face a crunch game with Netherlands at the Women’s Euros on Wednesday evening, after losing their opening match of the competition.

It was a disappointing start to the campaign for Sarina Wiegman’s side, losing 2-1 to France on Saturday.

Another defeat would likely put England out of the competition, while victory would leave them in a strong position to progress to the knockout stages.

A draw would make things very interesting going into the last round of group games, where England face Wales on Sunday.

Netherlands downed Wales 3-0 in their opener, with goals from Vivienne Miedema, Victoria Pelova and Esmee Brugts.

With France hot favourites to beat Wales on Wednesday night, the Dutch will know they have a great chance to oust the English with another victory.

England have not been knockout out at the group stage since 2013 and it would be a disastrous end to the campaign for the defending champions.

England vs Netherlands team news

Wiegman has confirmed that England do not have any fitness issues, but the manager may choose to make changes after defeat to France.

Ella Toone, Chloe Kelly, Grace Clinton and Niamh Charles will all be hoping to step into the starting XI having come off the bench in the opener.

Netherlands are more likely to be unchanged after their victory over the Welsh.

England vs Netherlands head-to-head record

The nations have met twice in the final stages of the European Championship, with one win-a-piece, both at the semi-final stage.

Wiegman on the high-pressure contest

‘We don’t talk about consequences, we talk about our game plan,’ she said. ‘We bring it back to that it’s a game, it’s a football game, and the outcome, of course, has consequences, but that was the same at the final, at the Euros and the World Cup.’

She added: ‘We bring it back to what we have to do, and the focus is on what actions we have to take to play our best, and that’s the conversations we have when we train.

‘Of course it’s gonna be an intense game, and we knew this was going to be a hard group. We are focusing on our game plan and just executing that.

‘What we’re occupied with is playing football, executing a task, sticking together and doing that together. Getting the right connections, and just work really hard and do everything to win the game.’
