Kaizer Chiefs have wrapped uop their pre-season tour of the Netherlands and it is clear that they need to make some big changes.
Kaizer Chiefs won just one of their five matches during their pre-season tour to the Netherlands.
So, they are going to need to recruit some new players in key positions. Let’s take a look at their main transfer targets in each position.
CHIEFS MAIN TRANSFER TARGETS
Goalkeeper: Stanley Nwabili/ Croatian
Defenders: Fawaaz Basadien
Midfielders: Mihlali Mayambela, Jaedin Rhodes and Luke Baartmen
Attackers (Strikers and Wingers): Dzenan Zajmovic, Asenale Velebayi and Elias Makwana
Chiefs urgently need reinforcements in goal.
This is because Fiacre Ntwari is set to be released. Meanwhile, Brandon Petersen and Bruce Bvuma continue to be rotated by Nasreddine Nabi with neither man showing consistancy in goal.
Hence, the pressing need to sign a quality goalkeeper. Nigerian goalkeeper, Nwabali has been linked with Chiefs for several seasons now. However, Chippa United are now open to letting him go with Amakhosi interested in signing him.
In defence, Amakhosi have brought in Nkanyiso Shinga, Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane. Meanwhile, they signed Inacio Miguel and Rushwin Dortley at the start of last season. So, they are quite well covered at the back although they are still linked to Stellenbosch and Bafana Bafna FC right back, Basadien.
MIDFIELD MOVEMENT MADNESS
Njabulo Blom (defender and defensive midfielder), Sabelo Radebe, Mduduzi Mdantsane and Yusuf Maart have all left Chiefs.
Meanwhile, they have signed Ethan Ndlovu and Siphesihle Ndlovu. So, that’s four midfield departures and two midfield signings and they’re far from done with changes in the midfield.
Mayambela and Rhodes are heavily linked with moves to Chiefs. In fact, Amakhosi were close to securing a deal for Mayambela before they raised his price. So, they are willing to wait until January when he is free or for Aris Limassol to lower their asking price.
“Chiefs are not just sitting back and relaxing by waiting for January or the end of the season. It’s believed the negotiations are ongoing and it will depend on how low Aris Limassol can go in terms of the amount. Chiefs are believed to want to have him as early as they can. But if that doesn’t happen, then they will wait for his free agency status from January until the end of the season,” the insider revealed on SNL.
Meanwhile, Baartmen (Cape Town Spurs) has reportedly agreed to join Chiefs.
STRIKER CRISIS NEEDS ANSWERS
In five matches on tour, Chiefs scored two goals. One was a stunner from Reeve Frosler. Whilst, one goal was scored by youngster Naledi Hlongwane.
Meaning, in five matches – 450 minutes (seven and a half hours of football), Amakhosi’s attackers managed just one goal. Flavio Silva has been underwhelming. Whilst, Wandile Duba needs an experienced attacker to guide him.
As things stand, Chiefs could sign Zajmovic for free. Meanwhile, they are yet again linked with Mokwana and Velebayi. Interestingly, reports claim Velebayi has already agreed to join Chiefs.
