Swansea University graduates have delivered free healthcare services to over 1,000 residents in Abuja, Nigeria, to mark this year’s Children’s Day.
The services included health promotion, eye checks, malaria checks, distribution of malaria drugs and eyeglasses, free dental health services, and nutritional assessment.
Chaired by Oyeinkediton Churchill, a 2016 BSc business management graduate, Swansea University Alumni Nigeria is the official alumni chapter for all Swansea graduates based in Nigeria. The association launched in 2018.
The chapter frequently coordinates events and initiatives to connect alumni and strengthen ties with the university.
The National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the Nigerian Red Cross Society and the Nigerian Chapter all worked in partnership to distribute the services.
This years event saw more than 1,000 residents receive free medical outreach in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Oyeinkediton Churchill wrote on LinkedIn: “We cannot forget to acknowledge the wonderful contributions by our sponsors who went overboard to provide basic services to our participants.
“We wouldn’t have done this without the Swansea University Alumni Nigeria members all over the world who entrusted us with their mandate and resources, we wish you all great fortune.
“It’s a privilege to give back to our communities so, we hope to extend the gesture further in no distant time.”
Gerard Kennedy, Development and Alumni Relations Manager at Swansea University, said: “We are incredibly proud of our Nigerian alumni for their exceptional initiative and generosity.
“This event not only highlights their professional expertise and compassionate spirit, but also exemplifies the strength of our global alumni community.

A Swansea University spokesperson also added: “The success of the event reflects the vibrancy and cohesion of the Nigerian alumni community. Their ability to deliver such a significant outreach underscores their leadership, unity, and unwavering dedication to public service.
