The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.

John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) has let another Emmerdale character die.

The complex resident has been on edge ever since the police confirmed the body in the lake is Nate Robinson. John has been tasked with supporting Nate’s friends and family, while trying to cover his tracks so the police don’t get suspicious of him.

He’s done a good job so far, as the police still have no idea who committed the crime. In this evening’s episode though, John learnt some new information that left him feeling paranoid.

After a chat by Nate’s graveside yesterday, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Tracy Shankley (Amy Walsh) made huge progress as they both admitted they believe neither of them killed Nate. They hugged, and then concluded they can work together to find the real culprit.

When John arrived in the shop, he found Cain and Tracy talking and quickly learnt about their plan. He wondered if he could help out as well, but Cain told him they were going to do it alone.

Paranoid about where their own personal investigation would take them, John knew he had to act fast to steer Cain and Tracy in a direction away from him.

Heading to work, John was given a list of house visits by Claudette (Flo Wilson). Among the names was Owen Michaels, the guy who spiked Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley).

After Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) told John that Owen struggles with drink and drug problems, John headed over there.

Making his way inside the house, John found Owen unconscious. Music was playing and the place was a mess. He went to call an ambulance, but then an idea formed.

John simply let Owen die. As his life slipped away, John grabbed Owen’s laptop and wrote a note on it, which will later be discovered by the police.

He faced a challenge when Liam arrived at the door to check on Owen, but ultimately John’s plan worked. He tidied up, wiping his finger prints from the scene of the crime, and then headed back to the village.

But when Cain and Tracy get told that Owen’s note on the laptop confesses to him killing Nate, will it really all add up and make sense to them?
