A 61-year-old man sporting a metal necklace was sucked into a rapidly spinning MRI machine and has died.
The freak accident at Nassau Open MRI in Westbury, New York, on Wednesday afternoon.
Officers arriving at the enter on Old Country Road were told that the man entered an unauthorized Magnetic Resonance Imaging room when a scan was in progress, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
‘The male victim was wearing a large metallic chain around his neck causing him to be drawn into the machine which resulted in a medical episode,’ stated the police department
He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Shortly after 2.30pm on Thursday, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by a doctor.
