Orlando Pirates have entered the final stretch of pre-season preparations, and while they’ve made over eleven signings, it’s the departures and rumoured exits that continue to dominate conversation.
Monnapule Saleng has officially returned to Orbit College after months of uncertainty. The 27-year-old winger, who hasn’t featured in a PSL match since November last year, was widely expected to be offloaded — but few could’ve predicted he’d land in North West province.
“First of all, I would like to thank God, the Man Above, for being here at Orbit, for being back home,” Saleng said in his first public statement since rejoining. “Going back to Orbit after a great campaign they had — and I loved that they gained promotion and that I could come back home.”
Saleng added, “Because being home is something that brings happiness. You can never lose home. No matter what, no matter where you go, you can’t lose home.”
New deals
Meanwhile, discussions for new deals are underway internally. Orlando Pirates have made clear their intention to hold on to key veterans, and at least one senior player (Makhehlene Makhaula) is expected to put pen to paper soon.
According to agent Sizwe Ntshangase, talks with the club have gone well.
“Our discussions with Pirates have gone very well, to the satisfaction of both parties,” he confirmed. “It is up to Pirates to issue an official statement on the contract and its duration.”
