Ruben Amorim believes Manchester United have enough firepower at their disposal even if they fail to sign a new striker before the start of the new season.
United endured a wretched 2024-25 campaign, finishing 15th in the Premier League and scoring just 44 goals in their 38 matches. Only Everton and the three clubs relegated from the top flight managed less.
In signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo from Wolves and Brentford respectively, United will hope they have gone some way in rectifying that.
The pair scored 15 and 20 Premier League goals respectively last season and are expected to immediately take up key roles under Amorim.
United had also hoped to sign a new centre forward with first choice target Liam Delap choosing a move to Chelsea and Viktor Gyokeres set to complete his move to Arsenal.

Aston Villa are adamant Ollie Watkins is not for sale with a deal for Benjamin Sesko also appearing to be out of United’s reach.
United’s current options of Rasmus Hojliund and Joshua Zirkzee mustered just seven league goals between them last season but Amorim may have to keep faith in the duo if there are no further arrivals.

While Cunha and Mbeumo are expected to take up the two no10 roles in Amorim’s system, the United boss has suggested both could be utilised further forward.
Speaking ahead of United’s opening match of their pre-season tour of the United States against West Ham, Amorim said: ‘In the moment we need to be careful when we sign a player. If I start the season with this squad I will be happy.

‘They [Mbeumo and Cunha] can play as a striker. We have Josh [Zirkzee] and Rasmus [Hojlund], the focus is to improve the connection between them.
‘I don’t know if the position is there for them. They have to work. They have other players fighting for that position.
‘I’m really pleased. They [Mbeumo and Cunha] are really humble, that is really important, and they chose to be here.
‘They had other options, Champions League options, they read everything people say about our club, but they chose to be here. That is a key point for me.’
