Suspect in May hit-and-run on Wheeler Road in RCSO custody

UPDATE, July 26, 1:42 pm – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has issued arrest warrants and now taken into custody Quanterius Marquette Nelson, age 37, in connection with a serious hit-and-run crash that occurred on May 28th, at the intersection of Wheeler Road and Frontage Road.

The incident left 27-year-old Morgan Gray critically injured.

Following an intensive investigation by the Traffic Division and Criminal Investigations Division, investigators obtained search warrants and processed key evidence that led to arrest warrants for multiple felony and traffic charges against Nelson.

While actively conducting follow-up investigations and searching for the suspect, Nelson voluntarily turned himself in to deputies without incident.

He has been transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center and is currently awaiting booking.

Charges include:

  • Serious Injury by Motor Vehicle
  • Felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident
  • Failure to Yield While Turning Left
  • Driving While License Suspended
  • No Insurance

“Due to the diligence of our investigators, we were able to establish enough probable cause to move forward with charges,” said Sheriff Gino Brantley. “Our team worked tirelessly to bring accountability and justice to this case as expeditiously as possible within the requirements of the law. We remain committed to seeing this case through to its conclusion.”

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has issued arrest warrants for 37-year-old Quanterius Marquette Nelson, in connection with a severe hit-and-run in May.

Investigators say Nelson was involved in that serious hit-and-run crash on May 28, at the intersection of Wheeler Road and Frontage Road. That crash left 27-year-old Morgan Gray critically injured.

Nelson is facing charges of:

  • Serious Injury by Motor Vehicle
  • Felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident
  • Failure to Yield While Turning Left
  • Driving While License Suspended
  • No Insurance

“Due to the diligence of our investigators, we now have enough probable cause to move forward with charges,” said Richmond County Sheriff Gino Brantley. “Our team has worked tirelessly to bring accountability and justice to this case as expeditiously as possible. We are committed to continuing our pursuit until Mr. Nelson is apprehended.”
