Cape Town: Say goodbye to winter, but not for long…

Especially compared to last year, the Western Cape has seen far less rainfall this year, although there have been some extremely chilly days that have seen Cape Town residents regularly reaching for their winter blankets.

As July draws to an end, though, Cape Town and surrounding areas will enjoy an unusually warm start to the week for this time of the year, with temperatures expected to reach as high as 21°C on Monday and Tuesday.

However, winter will make a ‘comeback’ from Wednesday evening when another cold front is expected to arrive, bringing persistent rain that is expected to last through most of Thursday, when temperatures also won’t reach much more than 13°C at its peak.

The rain is expected to abate on Friday, but temperatures will only start rising to the high teens on Saturday and Sunday. Ultimately, the good news is that Spring is now on the horizon.

Looking elsewhere around the country, Gauteng is expected to see a week of typical winter weather, with clear skies, minimal wind and chilly mornings and evenings.

Meanwhile, similarly to the Western Cape actually, there is some very warm weather for Gqeberha in the first half of the week as temperatures hit as high as 28°C on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, on Thursday and Friday, some strong gusting winds and rain will arrive.

As ever, it’s the Durban winter weather that is the envy of many, with warm and clear conditions predicted all week along with some light wind.
