The victories England squad were treated to a reception at 10 Downing Street as the celebrations of their Euro 2025 triumph continue.

The Lionesses arrived back in England on Monday afternoon after their dramatic win over Spain in Basel on Sunday night.

The game went all the way to a penalty shootout after finishing 1-1, with goalkeeper Hannah Hampton saving two spot-kicks and England stars scored by Alex Greenwood, Niamh Charles and Chloe Kelly.

There was a party to follow as England celebrated defending their European Championship title and manager Sarina Wiegman claimed a third straight Euros after winning the tournament with Netherlands previously.

There was little time to rest, though, as the squad headed to Downing Street to pose with the trophy and attend a reception with deputy prime minister Angela Rayner and sports minister Stephanie Peacock.

There will have been some tired bodies after three straight games went to extra-time in Switzerland, with Lucy Bronze likely to be especially sore after revealing she played the entire tournament with a fracture tibia.

There may well have been some sore heads as well after Sunday night’s celebrations, but little could have dampened the spirits of the champions and they looked in fine fettle in the gardens of Downing Street.

Speaking to Sky News outside 10 Downing Street, Wiegman said: ‘Very, very special. 10 Downing Street, you don’t come there normally.

‘To be able to go inside, but also to go in the garden there, it was really, really nice. They put up some pictures of us that showed what we had done in the Euros. Lovely, it was very, very special.’

On her incredible achievements, she added: ‘For me it feels very surreal. I’m just trying my best every day and try to bring people together. I have so much quality around me.’

An honorary Damehood has been mooted for Wiegman, with the manager saying of the suggestion: ‘I haven’t thought about that.

‘I feel so much respect from England and the Royal Family too, I think that’s the most important thing. Feeling valued, it’s very special to get so much respect from England.’
