Jason Momoa has floored fans after shaving his beard for the first time in years.
The American actor, 45, has been in the public eye since making his screen debut in Baywatch: Hawaii in 1999.
In the years since he’s gone on to star in Stargate Atlantis, Game of Thrones and Aquaman.
Many of his most notable roles have seen the star with long facial hair, however he’s now left many doing a double take after shaving it all off for a new project.
Posting a video on Instagram this week, he explained: ‘Haven’t shaved in six years, and here we are again. I launched @mananalu to help eliminate single-use plastic.
‘Now, we’re taking it even further, partnering with our team at @Getboomerangwater to bring in a closed-loop system that sanitises and bottles water onsite.
‘That means even less waste, reduced shipping footprint, and our aluminium bottles get reused over and over. This is the future, and we’re starting in Hawai’i. Let’s get rid of single-use plastic. For our children and for our planet. All my aloha, J.’
The clip showed him in the process of shaving his beard, with the change shocking him at first.
‘God damnit, I hate it!’ he joked when getting a glimpse of himself in the mirror.
While Jason used the shaving as a chance to promote his company, he was undertaking the change ahead of filming Dune: Part Three.
‘Only for you, Denis,’ he said, referencing the franchise’s director Denis Villeneuve.
Jason played the character of Duncan Idaho in the 2021 movie, in which he appeared clean-shaven.
But wanting to promote the message about avoiding single-use plastic, he also reiterated in his video that ‘we don’t need it’,
‘This is the kick-off. I want to, like, tell you guys and inform people that Mananalu, powered by Boomerang, is out there trying to make change,’ he said.
The actor again started laughing at himself when seeing his half-shaven face.
Despite his initial shock, Jason’s new look was praised by many, including his girlfriend Adria Arjona, who left a few heart emojis on the post.
‘Great you look so handsome omg Jason why do you hide your beautiful face,’ Andy gushed in the comments section.
‘You look handsome either way, I am a huge fan of the beard however!’ Kimberly shared.
‘I love the change!’ a fan page added.
Jason had previously shaved off his beard when launching the company in 2019, saying at the time, ‘Goodbye Drogo, Aquaman, Declan, [and] Baba!’, referencing the bearded characters he played in Game of Thrones, Aquaman, Frontier and See.
‘I’m shaving this beast off; it’s time to make a change,’ he said.
In that video he explained it was the first time he shaved since 2012.
Although Jason didn’t appear in Dune: Part Two, he will return to the movie franchise for the next film.
He will also be joined by his son Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, who he shares with ex-wife Lisa Bonet.
Earlier this month he spoke about his son’s casting and how he ‘did it on his own’.
‘A rude awakening is what he’s in for,’ he told Extra.
‘He’s into the workforce for the first time. It’s going to be good. He did it on his own. I don’t want to help him, and he’s done it all on his own, and good for him.
‘You want your children to be better than you, and I really, actually believe he is. I couldn’t do what he’s doing at his age. There’s no way I could sit in a room with Denis Villeneuve and hold my own. I was on Baywatch at 19. He’s 16 and holding s*** down with Denis Villeneuve.’
Jason was in a relationship with Lisa from 2005 until 2020, with the pair sharing son Nakoa and daughter Lola.
He has been dating Andor actress Adria since last year.
