Augusta city leaders host FY2026 budget meeting

On Wednesday, the City of Augusta hosted a budget meeting at Warren Road Community Center.

City Administrator Tameka Allen presented the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2025, and took public comment from residents concerned about cuts and changes to the budget. Allen stressed that while the decision for the budget is a big one, her office plans to lead with accountability.

Allen told WJBF, “We’re going to be more accountable for some of the things, I know some of the concern that some of the citizens have is what are we getting for our tax payer’s dollars. We’re working in the City of Augusta to make sure that they can be rest assured that we’re doing and giving them what they actually deserve, the kind of service they deserve.”

Many citizens raised concerns about lack of maintenance on city infrastructure and public lands, and the management of stormwater fees to name a few. Allen stressed the need for departmental clean-up and also told WJBF, “We want to keep in mind that it is a lot of things that we have to contemplate, it’s a lot of things we have to look at, and it’s a lot of things that our governing body is going to have to consider in making a decision for 2026.”
