Jon Miyahara, best known as Brett on the sitcom Superstore, has died aged 83.
The actor co-starred in the America Ferrera-led show, which followed a group of employees at Cloud 9, a fictional Costco-type store in Missouri, US, as they tackle tough customers.
He appeared in almost every episode of the show’s six-season run on NBC between 2015 and 2021, wracking up 105 episodes of Superstore’s 113 in total, according to his IMDb page.
Miyahara died on Wednesday (August 6), with his wife, Chiyo, at his side, according to the ‘the actor’s daughter, Pennie Cappasola.
Cappasola told People that her father ‘loved working on Superstore’.
The news was first shared by Miyahara’s co-star Colton Dunn, who played Garrett and posted a heartfelt Instagram tribute.
He wrote: ‘John was a really awesome guy and as a performer could speak volumes with just a look. He was such a memorable part of the Cloud 9 team.
‘It was an honor to know him and work with him. I was lucky enough to meet some of his family and my thoughts are with them. Rest in Peace John.’
Kelly Stables, who played Kelly, commented on Dunn’s post: ‘Oh man! He was always so sweet! Rest in peace.’
‘What an incredible man,’ Irene White, who played Carol, also commented.
Michael Bunin, who played Jeff, wrote: ‘I’m so sad to hear this news. Many fun days and many fun conversations. Very nice guy.’
Sierra Teller Ornelas, a writer and producer on the NBC sitcom, also wrote: ‘Oh no, he was literally the sweetest man. Prayers up to his family and loved ones.’
