Applications for The Tab HQ’s graduate programme are now open. We are looking for several passionate and energetic grads to fill our two-year Trainee Reporter and Assistant Editor roles. You should be a self-starter and excited to dive into a career in journalism.
Across a two-year programme, you’ll learn how to become a leading voice in youth media. You’ll get training in entertainment and trends writing, news and features, SEO, investigations, editing, commissioning, data and FOIs, social media management, video, and more. You’ll receive intense training in your first months and then embark on one-week rotations across different areas of the editorial team. You’ll be paired with a mentor and receive feedback and monthly progression meetings throughout.
The graduate programme is made up of two different tracks:
- Junior Reporter
- Assistant Editor
Junior Reporters will focus on publishing daily trending stories, while Assistant Editors will oversee publishing across our local university teams.
If successful after one year in the role, you’ll be promoted to Staff Writer or Commissioning Editor with a pay review. After completing the second year, only the best candidates from this cohort will be selected to apply for a full-time senior role at the company – a senior writing role or an editor position. Our top staff go on to run a team within three years.
The Tab is a global entertainment brand focusing on Gen-Z and youth culture with seven million readers a month. We cover everything from MAFS to politics and live news from the perspective of young people.
You’ll join a team of 14 shithot journalists (and counting). It’s an exciting time to join; we’ve grown our readership massively in the last year and launched a new US-focused brand, Reality Shrine.
This role is open to grads who’ve finished their degree within the last two years. This is a hybrid working role.

You’ll be writing or editing stories like these:
- Every detail released about Paul Doyle, the father charged over Liverpool parade incident
- Student calls out King’s College London for giving her the wrong grade three times
- Diddy’s heinous one-word whisper to his lawyer caught on the courtroom mic
- All the UK unis that are resorting to scrapping courses and whole departments in 2025
- JK Rowling donated £70K to fund the Supreme Court trans ruling – stop supporting her work
You must:
- Have completed a degree at a UK university
- Have some writing experience for student media
- Have a strong understanding of what young people care about. You will know what entertains people aged 18-25, and what makes them tick
- Be numbers-driven and thrive off ambitious readership targets
- Be willing to make regular visits to our London office
The benefits:
- Two-year role with a salary review after a year, subject to being promoted to Staff Writer or Commissioning Editor
- Starting salary of £24,500
- Top writers will be promoted to a more senior role after successful completion of the two-year traineeship

- Hours: 9 am-6 pm on weekdays (with the option to start at 8 am and finish at 5 pm), and 4:30 pm Friday finishes
