Rescuers release statement after travel influencer couple die in tragic off-road car crash

A travel influencer couple have died following an off-road car crash. The couple, who shared their van adventures with their thousands of followers, were in the mountains near Trout Lake in British Colombia, Canada.

Rescuers have said Stacey Tourout and Matthew Yeomans lost control of their vehicle, whilst driving through rough terrain in the mountains. A statement confirmed they didn’t survive the crash.

Kaslo Search and Rescue, who responded to the scene, said rescuers were called to an off-road motor vehicle incident around 7:30pm local time on August 7th.

Manager Mark Jennings-Bates said: “It was on a forestry road, somewhere in the mountains, and quite a long ways north in the valley up towards… the village of Trout Lake. Our teams were able to get to them efficiently. It’s a long journey, but they got there efficiently. So that was very, very helpful. And of course that means that the helicopter pilot could also fly straight to the destination with confidence that he was going to find them.”

However, he confirmed one of the couple was dead when rescuers arrived, and the other died later in hospital. It was said the exact cause of the crash is not yet clear, but they believe the couple lost control whilst driving on rough terrain.

Stacey and Matthew, who are from Canada, ran the Toyota World Runners YouTube channel. The couple had more than 200k subscribers, and 72k followers on Instagram. The couple also ran a blog documenting their huge car and RV refurbs.

“Matthew and Stacey built the worlds first Land Cruiser Chinook in 100 days,” their YouTube channel stated. “Now set off on their journey to drive the Pan American and beyond – this is their story about the adventure, the personal growth and choosing to LIVE life and create a legacy community of people who are seekers of the unknown.”

Colleen Tourout, Stacey’s mother, posted to confirm the news, and added the couple “loved so much.” Her post said: “They are together forever, as we knew they would always be.”

Tributes have been flooding in for the much loved couple. Fellow content creator Shaun, behind The Story Till Now YouTube channel, said: “They were so young and full of life, so talented, and this is a huge loss for our off-road community, their friends and family, and the world.”
