Dominic Calvert-Lewin has agreed to join newly-promoted Leeds United after leaving Everton at the end of his contract.

The England international left the Toffees at the end of last season after nine years at the club.

He made 274 appearances in all competitions for Everton, scoring 71 goals, in a spell which was fantastic at times but badly hampered by injuries.

The 28-year-old scored 13 Premier League goals in the 2019/20 season and upped that to 16 the following campaign, which saw him linked with big-money moves to the top flight’s elite clubs.

However, he has not hit those heights since and scored just three league goals last season in 26 outings.

Available on a free transfer this summer, Calvert-Lewin was linked with a wide range of clubs, including Manchester United and Newcastle.

It is Leeds who have landed the 11-cap England international, though, after reaching an agreement to join the Yorkshire club.

The forward is set for a medical at Leeds, with the length of the contract he is signing at Elland Road yet to be confirmed.

Calvert-Lewin was offered a new deal by the Toffees, but on reduced terms, which he turned down.

Leeds will be hoping that the hamstring injuries that have blighted the striker in recent years are behind him and he can help keep them in the top flight this season.

The new signing joins the likes of Anton Stach, Sean Longstaff, Lucas Perri and Gabriel Gudmundsson in arriving at Elland Road this summer.

Stach drew huge praise from manager Daniel Farke after a friendly draw with AC Milan this summer, suggesting fans should be getting excited about the Germany international brought in from Hoffenheim.

‘He was one of my key wishes,’ said Farke of Stach. ‘He proved today why we wanted to sign him. An outstanding performance today. He gave us defensive balance, many winnings of the ball, his physicality but also quality on the ball.

Gabriel Gudmundsson from Lille – £10m

Sean Longstaff from Newcastle – £12m

‘We’ve spoken a lot about his size and his physicality, but even more so he’s a quality footballer, great on the ball, great passes, good finishes, fantastic goal. On a good path, fantastic pre-season.

‘We can only judge him properly when the season starts. But he was one of the best players on the pitch today. I am picky when it comes to signings but he is a fantastic human being, an important player.’

Leeds have to wait till Monday night to get their Premier League campaign underway when they host Everton at Elland Road.
