The University of South Wales’ vice-chancellor has announced he will be stepping down.
Dr Ben Calvert, who joined the university over a decade ago, said he will relinquish his role in summer 2026.
“It has been an honour to serve this incredible University, and I am proud of the impact we make, day in, day out, on the people and communities we serve,” Dr Calvert said.
Dr Calvert joined the university in 2015 as the pro vice-chancellor for student experience before becoming deputy vice-chancellor in 2019. He was then promoted to his current role in September 2o21.
Previous to his positions at USW, he has worked at institutions such as the University of Gloucestershire in roles ranging from course leader to dean of faculty.
Dr Calvert has also held positions such as the vice chair of Universities Wales, and even leading the higher education response to Covid-19 in Wales.
Commenting on Dr Calvert’s departure, the chair of the university’s governors, said: “We are deeply grateful to Ben for his leadership, dedication, and vision through one of the toughest external environments the higher education sector has faced.
“His contribution to the University of South Wales will have a lasting impact, and we wish him all the very best for the future”.
According to the university board, it is currently searching for Dr Calvert’s successor, and it will be named in the autumn.
