Chipotle customers are mourning the news that one of their favorite menu items is being removed, and there’s no guarantee that it will ever come back.
The Chipotle Honey Chicken is being removed from the menu, say customers who got the sad news on their Chipotle app. And while this was always known to be a limited time offer, the announcement is still upsetting to many people.
Chipotle Honey Chicken Will Be Gone as Soon as August 14
On Reddit, one user posted a screenshot of their app with the notice: “Chipotle Honey Chicken Last Bite. Offer ends Thursday, Aug. 14. The end of your Chipotle Honey Chicken era is coming. Order one last time and earn an exclusive badge.”
“I am very sad but also excited for what’s next,” they wrote.
The menu item has gotten rave reviews, and many customers had hoped it might be around longer.
Another Redditor posted a screenshot from their Chipotle app and wrote, “Honey chicken you’ll be deeply missed.”
The message on their app was worded slightly differently, reading: “We’re saying goodbye with one last scroll of fan-favorite moments. Order now before it’s off the menu.”
On Instagram, one person shared a screenshot from the app and wrote, “Absolutely tragic. 💔🥺.”
Men’s Journal reviewed the Chipotle Honey Chicken when it was first released, noting that it “shines brightest” in a quesadilla, which is a digital-only menu item.
“There’s a delicious char to each bit of chicken, too. It’s got a sauced and glazed vibe, jam packed with complex flavor,” the review notes.
New Items Will Replace Honey Chicken on the Menu
Chipotle frequently offers limited-time special menu items, and will be coming out with new options soon. And while the restaurant itself hasn’t made an official announcement about what’s next, multiple people on Reddit who claim to work for the chain say carne asada will be the next special item on the menu.
“My location said carne asada is coming back near September,” one person wrote. Another person said their local restaurant is already selling the menu item.
Another person wrote that honey chicken is one of their favorites: “Ill miss it because its a ton of flavor and cheap too. The brisket is my favorite but cost soooo much more. I dont know if I tried carne asada either time they had it…ill see shortly.”
