If your TikTok FYP is anything like mine, it’s full of people doing that new film credits trend, but who the hell is Robert B. Weide?!
The trend has taken over the app this week, replacing that annoying Alexander come back to sleep thing that’s been doing the rounds.
If you’re just as confused as I was, here’s all the Robert B. Weide lore you need to know, because it’s actually an old resurfaced meme.

The Robert B Weide trend is blowing up on TikTok right now
People on TikTok are posting something they expected to happen, then sharing a black photo that looks like a film’s ending credits, before revealing what actually happened in reality.
Lots of people are writing “I can change him,” remembering how they thought they could change a guy they were seeing. However, they then reveal a picture of them still single and alone, showing it didn’t actually work.
Another one says “I’m gonna start going to the gym,” but the person then added a photo of themself exactly the same as they were before, showing they didn’t in fact start going to the gym. Relatable.
In between the before and after slides is a black picture that says “Directed by Robert B. Weide” in white text, and that’s the part of the trend that’s confusing everyone.

So, what does ‘Directed by Robert B Weide’ actually mean?!
Robert B Weide is an American screenwriter and TV producer who as expected, directed a lot of comedy TV shows and documentaries. But why was he chosen for the trend?
Well, it’s actually a really old 2018 meme that has resurfaced. The black “Directed by Robert B Weide” screen is from a comedy sitcom he directed called Curb Your Enthusiasm, that was released in 2000.
In the comedy, the show’s main character, a famous TV writer and producer called Larry David, does things that are morally correct, but always ends up getting into an awkward or disastrous situation.
So, it got turned into a meme, mainly used on Twitter, where people share their own chaotic situations they’ve ended up in. Now, it’s made its way onto TikTok too. Everything always comes back around.
